Portland protests: All you need to know about ongoing unrest

 

The fatal shooting of a protester in Portland on Saturday has brought increased scrutiny on demonstrations across the country in light of the deadly shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Demonstrators in both cities are calling for criminal justice reform and an end to systemic racism. Kenosha's demonstrations began in earnest after the shooting of Jacob Blake last week. Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, is accused of opening fire and killing three Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters 

The victim of the fatal shooting in Portland was reportedly a right-wing supporter of US President Donald Trump. Tensions look set to rise in Portland, already a pivotal city in the continuing nationwide protests. Critics are saying Trump is encouraging the violence.

Lutte contre le coronavirus: Des chercheurs français annoncent la création d’une solution anti-Covid

 

Des chercheurs français ont trouvé un moyen de stopper le coronavirus dans l’organisme, ce qui pourrait constituer une nouvelle alternative au vaccin. Le résultat de cette étude se ferait alors sous forme de spray nasal ou d’une pastille.

Un moyen de bloquer l’intrusion du nouveau coronavirus dans l’organisme a été pensé par des chercheurs français du Centre national pour la recherche scientifique (CNRS). Cette solution devrait ainsi constituer une alternative au vaccin, toujours objet de polémiques. Il se présenterait alors sous forme de spray nasal ou d’une pastille, selon le journal Le Parisien.

Cameroun - Insécurité: Plus de 200 engins explosifs improvisés saisis à Garoua (Nord)

 

La cargaison, en provenance du Nigeria, a été saisie le 29 août 2020 dans une voiture de marque Starlet par les éléments de la mission Halcomi (Halte au Commerce Illicite) Zone 3.

207 Engins Explosifs Improvisés (EEI), d'un poids total de 2070 kg, ont été saisis le samedi 29 août 2020 dans la région du Nord. Selon le quotidien Le Messager qui rapporte cette information dans son édition du 31 août 2020, c'est précisément à Pakete, village situé à 3km de Garoua dans l'arrondissement de Demsa, que la voiture a été interpellée par des éléments de la Douane, membres de la  mission Halcomi (Halte au Commerce Illicite) Zone 3.

• Global coronavirus cases surged past 25 million, according to a Johns Hopkins University's tally, as deaths exceed 843,000. More than 16.4 million have recovered.

• India's health ministry announced on Sunday at least 78,761 new infections in 24 hours, setting a new daily record worldwide.

• Brazil's Ministry of Health has reported at least 758 additional coronavirus fatalities during the last 24 hours, with 41,350 new cases, bringing the death toll to 120,262, and the confirmed cases to 3,846,153.

• Every Italian region reported new coronavirus cases after a record 99,000 tests turned up another 1,444 cases.

Mustapha Adib all but set to be Lebanon PM-designate

 

Beirut, Lebanon - An influential group of former Lebanese prime ministers has picked little-known diplomat Mustapha Adib to head the country's next government, all but ensuring his appointment at a nomination process on Monday.

Fouad Siniora, speaking on behalf of the group which met on Sunday, said Adib should rapidly form a government capable of implementing long-overdue reforms and overseeing Beirut's reconstruction following a massive explosion that killed at least 190 people and damaged large parts of the capital earlier this month.

Soudan: nouvel accord de paix entre le gouvernement et des factions rebelles

 

Les représentants du gouvernement soudanais et quatre mouvements de guérilla regroupés au sein du Front révolutionnaire soudanais (FRS) ont paraphé l’accord visant à mettre fin à 17 ans de guerre civile.

Selon l’agence de presse officielle Suna, la signature officielle de l’accord est prévue lundi à Juba, capitale du Soudan du Sud.

Cameroun - Insécurité: Le Maire de Biyouha, Paul Henri Ngue, kidnappé et dépouillé sur la route Yaoundé–Douala.

 Amoché avant d’être libéré par ses ravisseurs au lever du jour ce dimanche 30 août 2020, le premier magistrat municipal de Biyouha est hospitalisé à Yaoundé.

Selon des sources crédibles, le Maire Paul Henri Ngue, est parti dans la nuit du samedi de Yaoundé au volant de son véhicule à destination de Biyouha, une commune de Nyong et Kelle, un département dans la Région du Centre. Chemin faisait, son véhicule serait tombé en panne, l’exposant au risque d’agression.

Cameroun – Rebondissement: Le Sous-Préfet dont l’arme a tué Lydienne Taba sera trainé devant le Tribunal militaire.

 

Le pere de la victime a décidé de faire recours aux services d’un collectif d’avocats.

La terre de Lobathal Mouanko, un village dans le département de la Sanaga Maritime, s’est refermée ce samedi 29 août 2020 sur la dépouille de Solange Lydienne Taba. Cette jeune étudiante de 23 ans, qui avait trouvé la mort dans des conditions flouées le 25 juillet 2020 à Kribi dans la résidence de Franck Ebanga, son compagnon Sous-Préfet.

Avec l’inhumation de la victime, les obsèques entamées hier à Kribi, sont terminées. Mais, le papa de Solange Lydienne Taba n’a pas tourné la page de cette histoire tragique. Patrice Ebemby Mboma a décidé de trainer en justice, le présumé assassin de son unique enfant. En marge de la levée du corps vendredi matin sous haute sécurité à Kribi, Patrice Ebemby Mboma a formellement pris langue avec « Universal lawyers and human rights defense », le collectif d’avocats conduit par Maitre Dominique Fousse.

Belarus: Tens of thousands rally in opposition march, dozens held

The situation in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, is tense as tens of thousands of Belarus protesters join an opposition rally against the controversial re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko.

Police detained 125 protesters during Sunday's rally, Russian news agency RIA reported, citing Russia's interior ministry.

Independence Square in the center of the city was sealed off with metal barriers and guarded by security forces as the Belarusian interior ministry warned citizens not to take part in Sunday's "unauthorized" rally.

As Cameroon eases coronavirus restrictions, the government is accused of politicising the pandemic

Government leaders in Cameroon have been accused of being more interested in fighting the opposition than COVID-19.

Despite accusations of putting the population in harm's way, the government has reopened airports and schools.

Cameroon has one of Africa's highest infection rates with more than 200 people reported dead and 6,000 cases.
